Yesterday, Zafiro did his first musical freestyle, using Welkin's old freestyle music for Intermediaire I. Their strengths and weaknesses are quite different but it seemed to work out OK with a few choreography tweaks. In a funny coincidence, I first rode to this music on Welkin (and it was my first musical freestyle ever) 3 years ago to the day. The freestyle has been "resting" for all these years.
I only had the opportunity to practice it to the music once before with Zafiro, so my timing could use more work but it was a blast to ride! We both had less tension since I was more focused on working with the music instead of trying to do each movement perfectly. Our 3 tempis went out the window but it was a fun start. I almost scratched since the weather forecast was so awful but it never rained on us though the wind picked up a lot, which could only help the quiet boy. We got a 63.8% from a very tough judge. Just love this horse!
